What is OGG?
OGG is an open, patent-free container most often used for Vorbis or Opus audio. It gives good quality at low bitrates and is common in games, web apps and Linux software, but many car stereos and Apple devices do not play it.
What is WAV?
WAV stores audio as uncompressed PCM, exactly as it was recorded. That makes it the standard for recording, editing and mastering, where no quality can be lost, but a WAV file is about ten times larger than the same audio in MP3.
Tips for converting OGG to WAV
- Converting a compressed file such as MP3 to a lossless format does not restore detail already removed; it only makes the file larger.
- For music, a lossless source (WAV or FLAC) gives the best result when you convert to WAV.
- Check that your player, car stereo or editing app supports WAV before converting a whole library.
- Keep the original OGG file as a backup until you are happy with the converted audio.
