Converting OGG to MP3: what to know
When you need it
OGG files come from voice messages, games, Linux software and some recorders. Many phones, car stereos, editors and websites won't accept them, while MP3 works practically everywhere.
What to expect
The audio is decoded and re-encoded as MP3. Going from one compressed format to another can add a little loss, which is hard to hear at 192 kbps or more. Voice messages, being mono speech, become very small MP3 files.
Tip: For spoken audio, 128 kbps under Advanced options is plenty; save the higher bitrates for music.
OGG vs MP3: what is the difference?

What is OGG?
OGG is an open, patent-free container most often used for Vorbis or Opus audio. It gives good quality at low bitrates and is common in games, web apps and Linux software, but many car stereos and Apple devices do not play it.
What is MP3?
MP3 is the classic compressed audio format. It removes sounds the ear barely notices to shrink files to roughly a tenth of CD size, and it plays on every phone, car stereo and music app, which is why it remains the default for music and podcasts.
Tips for converting OGG to MP3
- Converting a compressed file such as MP3 to a lossless format does not restore detail already removed; it only makes the file larger.
- For music, a lossless source (WAV or FLAC) gives the best result when you convert to MP3.
- Check that your player, car stereo or editing app supports MP3 before converting a whole library.
- Keep the original OGG file as a backup until you are happy with the converted audio.
