What to expect
The audio track is extracted and encoded as MP3, which plays on every phone, car stereo and music app. It can't sound better than the audio in the video. If the video has no audio track at all, like a silent screen recording, you get a message saying so instead of an empty file.

MP4 is the most widely used video container. It usually carries H.264 or H.265 video with AAC audio, and it plays on practically every phone, browser, smart TV and editing program, which makes it the safest choice for sharing and uploading.

MP3 is the classic compressed audio format. It removes sounds the ear barely notices to shrink files to roughly a tenth of CD size, and it plays on every phone, car stereo and music app, which is why it remains the default for music and podcasts.
Tips for converting MP4 to MP3
- Only the soundtrack of your MP4 file goes into the MP3; the picture is discarded.
- For music or podcasts choose 192 or 320 kbps under Advanced options; the automatic setting is enough for speech.
- Long videos still take a while to process, and the MP4 upload itself must fit the 50MB free limit.
- Keep the original video: the audio file cannot be turned back into it.
