What is TIFF?
TIFF is a high-fidelity image format used in printing, publishing, scanning and photo archiving. It keeps every detail, supports layers and high bit depths, and is usually saved without lossy compression — so files are large and browsers do not display it.
What is JPEG?
JPEG is the same format as JPG — only the file extension differs. It is the standard for photos, with lossy compression that keeps files small and universal support, but no transparency.
Tips for converting TIFF to JPEG
- Transparent backgrounds are only kept in formats that support them (PNG, WebP, AVIF); JPG fills them with white.
- For photos, lossy formats keep files small; for logos, screenshots and text, lossless PNG stays sharper.
- Converting an already compressed TIFF does not add detail — start from the highest-quality original you have.
- If the image is for a website, a modern format such as WebP or AVIF usually loads faster than JPEG.
